Shooting The Details

One of the most exciting parts of a wedding is the decor. Many of our clients hired us specifically for our reputation for publication, and shooting details for these beautiful magazines and blogs. There are imagery standards for many of the finest publications, and in order to be published, we adhere to these style standards. Per our Lens Guide, we shoot details with mostly a 50mm (with the exception of wides).

WIDE (5%):

– Shoot each space with and without guests: Ceremony, Cocktail and Dinner
– Horizontals tend to work best, but if you can also shoot vertical, this will be nice for a dyptch

MEDIUM (50%):

– The majority of our details are MEDIUM
– Include entire object, without cropping (whenever possible)
– Imagine you are shooting a table/chair for a catalog, they want to see the WHOLE object
– Shoot mostly VERTICAL
– Mediums in horizontal are best for cake tables and banquet tables, where a wide spread looks nice horizontally

TIGHT (45%):

– Shoot VERTICAL
– i.e. Close up of Centerpiece, Table setting, Cake
– Do not crop off half of the cake/centerpiece
– Include entire object
