Zoe hails from London, where she studied fine art and photography. She chose to make Oakland home after meeting the love of her life during a 3-month trip to the Bay Area, years ago. Her way of working produces raw, powerful imagery - curating a story through the details: the emotions, the hands, the embraces and the unscripted moments. She believes that the capturing of your true essence should be fun, joyous and transformative. Her superpowers are: reliability, creativity and approachability.
A handmade book of love poetry, observations and saucy notes that my husband wrote me while we were dating. I kept every text message and email in which he wrote beautiful things about me, printed and pasted them into a recycled book I crafted and bound myself and used various printmaking techniques.
Carrie Bradshaw! Her style was as much ‘anti-style’ and she carried it off with such pizzazz, grace an confidence. Style means taking risks and not always getting it right. Also I admire those that have dedication to dressing stylishly (like Carrie did, through 6 seasons!) because that’s work!
Whenever I travel! Travel is like a hard reset, and it’s funny how getting away from an issue can help you gain perspective on it in a way you’d never imagined before. When I travel I have my best ideas concerning what I’d like to do next in life. I often come back with a long to-do list! Bonus if the destination involves a beach.
Port View Park is a favorite photo location and place to chill and watch the sun set over San Francisco. My favorite Mexican place is Xolo on Telegraph in Uptown – get the chile verde burrito. I live just off Piedmont Ave and adore walking in to the various little shops and getting to know the local community. Oakland is great for finding places that are relatively deserted, and escaping the busy city life happening over the bay.
I’d want to visit South Africa. It’s been on my list for the longest time. I want to see everything it has to offer from wineries to safaris to the edgier cities and everything in between.
My favorite kind of tea. Coming from a bona fide tea fiend, it takes a special tea to rise to the top of my list. I like a tea with a strong flavor that can be drunk with milk!
‘When in doubt, simplify’ is my motto. Our world, our lives and our homes are so cluttered, I make a point of stepping back and making sure things are as simple as they can be.
For me a hot shower is the most replenishing thing. When I come home after a long day, before I even grab a bite to eat or slump on the couch, I recharge in the shower to feel human again!
This is a weird one, but I almost always wear socks. My husband jokes that the only time I don’t is when I’m in the shower. I lose a lot of socks in the wash. Why throw away perfectly good single socks when they can be paired with one another? I’m kind of like a sock matchmaker.
I buy a fancy brand which calls the humble shredded potato snack ‘spud puppies’. That definitely makes me feel like I’m eating something posh and respectable, though they’re still slathered in cheddar, bacon bits and sour cream.
I know I said Carrie Bradshaw was my style icon, but if I’m home, I’m in sweatpants – guaranteed!
