Jiajia and Kevin’s wedding day felt instantly comfortable. Their wedding at Tivoli Italian Villa was wrapped up in a cozy, candlelit atmosphere that felt more like an intimate backyard dinner party than a traditional wedding.
Maybe it was the way they were completely present with each other….or maybe it was the candlelit dinner setup tucked into the courtyard. Whatever it was, we loved every second of it 🥰
One of our favorite moments from the day was their first look. Jiajia said that “being able to see each other for the first time, wedding ready, brought so many emotions,” and it was written all over their faces. The second they saw each other, you could feel the anticipation melt away. They were relaxed, excited, and completely focused on soaking up every minute together. The rest of the day just flowed from that moment forward.
From the beginning, Jiajia and Kevin envisioned “a fairytale, intimate, backyard wedding, and the Tivoli space was so beautiful but also with the courtyard felt very intimate to match that atmosphere we wanted. And also it was very green which is why we picked this area since we are from LA.”
The lush greenery of this California Fallbrook wedding venue is truly the perfect setting, we looove shooting here. She had such whimsical florals filled with jasmine ivy, soft white blooms, sage tones, and natural greenery… channeling such romantic fairytale atmosphere.
We loved incorporating 35mm film photography for them throughout the day. The slightly imperfect, dreamy quality of film felt so right for this wedding. It added an extra layer of softness and nostalgia that paired beautifully with the candlelight, garden setting, and emotional moments between Jiajia and Kevin. Some memories just feel like they belong on film, and this day was definitely one of them.
The ceremony was super emotional and sweet. Both Jiajia and Kevin wrote their own vows (which we are ALWAYS a fan of if you’re considering it, btw).
And can we talk about Jiajia’s cape, please? 😍 She told us she fell in love with how fairytale-like and enchanting it felt, and we’re here for it, more capes, yes!! Every time it caught the breeze it looked magical. Paired with Kevin’s white dinner jacket, they looked like royalty.
One thing we loved about Tivoli Italian Villa is how effortlessly the day can unfold. We had plenty of time for portraits before the ceremony, romantic photos during golden hour, and a few dreamy nighttime portraits under the glowing lights later in the evening. The property has so many beautiful little corners, and once the sun starts to set, this Fallbrook wedding venue in California absolutely glows.
We also loved all the little details they chose that reflected who they are as a couple. Instead of a traditional guestbook, guests signed a Van Gogh coffee table book, a tribute to Kevin’s favorite artist. Their signature mocktail, the Frankie Fizz, was named after their puppy Frankie and quickly became a guest favorite. They even brought in a taco truck later in the evening so their East Coast guests could experience one of their favorite California traditions.
Their first dance song was Slow Dancing by Aly & AJ. Some of us have been mentally collecting wedding ideas since middle school, and Jiajia had already picked her first dance song years before Kevin entered the picture. “I knew I wanted to have that song as my first dance even before I met Kevin!” 🙂
Then came the dance floor… this group knew the assignment 😎 It stayed packed all night long! Every time we turned around there was another dance circle, shots pouring, glowsticks in the air. The energy never slowed down. Their guests were every bit as fun and animated as Jiajia and Kevin, it was an absolute blast.
As a San Diego wedding photographer, we see so many beautiful celebrations but the ones that we absolutely love are focused on authenticity and intention – while remember what matters most: the experience of being a guest at your own wedding. Focus on what matters most, staying present that day and letting go, and just enjoy every (sometimes unexpected) moment!
If you’re planning a wedding at Tivoli Italian Villa, or another beautiful Fallbrook wedding venue in California, we’d love to be part of it. We absolutely love weddings like Jiajia and Kevin’s, the kind that feel personal, joyful, and full of little details that reflect who you are as a couple. Whether you’re dreaming of a candlelit dinner under the stars, a garden-inspired celebration, or a dance floor that stays packed all night long, we’re here to capture it all in a way that feels natural and true to you.
